I finally have a little time off work so we had some friends over last night for a barbeque and visit. We made grilled pizzas for dinner and then for dessert, we did chocolate dessert waffles (recipe to follow) so I decided to make some homemade toppings for the waffles and this was one of them. Tastes like Hersheys Syrup only much better! And it couldn’t be any easier to make! I found it on a blog called “One Good Thing by Jillee”, here is the link: http://www.onegoodthingbyjillee.com/2012/03/homemade-chocolate-syrup.html.
1 1/2 cups sugar
3/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
1 cup water
dash of salt
1 teaspoon vanilla
In a small saucepan, add sugar, cocoa and salt. Whisk together gently. Add water. Bring mixture to a boil, stirring occasionally. Reduce heat and cook 1 minute. Remove from heat and add vanilla. Cool. Store in refrigerator.
That was the orginal recipe published in a Hershey Cocoa recipe pamphelet in the 1930’s. My husband’s grandmother saved it and made it all the time. Thanks for sharing.
Thank you for sharing that origin info, fun to know!
