About Me

I’ve always loved to cook and bake and I love to try new recipes.  My husband Bob loves to eat so we make a good team!  My son Zach who is 21 is usually game to try new foods while my daughter Courtney who is 18 is a little more cautious but once she finds something that she likes, she wants to eat it all the time.  I love chocolate more than anything so you’ll probably notice quite a lot of chocolatey recipes.

When I’m not in the kitchen, I’m working at my current job which is at BYU Broadcasting producing on air promos for their three television stations.  Before I started working there, I freelanced in motion picture and television as a script supervisor.  I also love to read and go to the movies and the beach!

I hope you like my food blog and I hope you’ll let me know if you have any questions or comments also please feel free to request any recipes you would like to have.  I’ve tagged the recipes in my blog with various subtitles such as “tried and true” which means I make that one all the time or “brand new” which means it is the first time trying that one.  Thanks for stopping by!

UPDATE:  I wrote this in August of 2010 when I started the blog and my dad (who apparently is just looking at my blog for the first time!  🙂  pointed out that it says that I am working at BYU Broadcasting which I no longer am.  I left there in June and went back to freelancing which is something I love to do and I realized that I am just not cut out for an office job.  I love being on movie and/or television sets!  So there’s the update for Sep 2010.

  1. Penny! It looks great! You REALLY should read Julia Child’s book, “My Life in France” I think you would love it. I finished the book and thought, “I really wish I could have met this woman!” Good luck! J.

  2. What a fun idea! I will check back often for new ideas…remind me to tell you about a great dessert I made for a missionary homecoming….actually…I’ll tell you right now! Bought the brownie bites from costco, topped them with a really yummy homemade peanut butter frosting and then sprinkled with chopped up reese’s peanut butter cups! OMGosh! Yummy! Have fun cooking and blogging!

  3. Penny! I love it. I’m excited to try recipes from a trusted chef rather than some random website. I don’t know if this is your genre but I make curry fairly regularly and I’m on the search for some new curry recipe. So, if you dabble in that stuff, I would be curious to know your ideas. If not, no worries.

    • Thanks Diana! I don’t make much curry but, as you probably know, I love the Pampered Chef, both their products and their recipes. I am totally confident posting PC recipes that I myself have not tried because I have yet to make a PC recipe that does not turn out and they are usually really easy recipes to follow so I’m going to post a couple of PC recipes for you, one for a curry main dish and one for a curry salad. Let me know how they work out for you and if you like them, I’ll find more.

  4. I love it Penny! Can I request some recipes? Your homemade pizza cooked on the BBQ, the yummy diced potatoes covered in cheesy goodness and the caramel rich flower cakes?

I’ll be checking this every week!
    Love,
    Amber

    • Amber!
We miss you but we get to see you soon!
Of course you can request recipes, I love requests!
The cheesy potato recipe is already on the blog under Barbeque and I will add the other two after work tonight!
      Love you!

  5. Hi Penny,
I think you’ve have come upon a great idea! I will enjoy more soup recipes. I love soups…they last a while and taste better each new day. Good luck! Love, Mom

  6. Penny, you’re amazing. And, who doesn’t love chocolate?! I’ll peruse your recipes. Thanks so much for sharing with us!

    Love ya!!

  7. Hi Penny…wanted to thank you for the awesome salad recipes. I ended up using the Spinach and Bow Tie Pasta recipe ant is was delicious! I will make that one again. Also, I found a recipe for a Mexican Caesar Salad that I used and it is a new favorite. I’ll get you the recipe if you’d like to add it. It does use cilantro in the dressing – which I know you don’t like…is it a flavor thing or a texture thing? Thanks again…the salad buffet was a huge hit!

    • I’m glad it worked out and of course I would love the recipe for the Mexican Caesar Salad (Caesars are my favorite salad) and I can just leave the yucky tasting cilantro out!

  8. Hi Penny,

OK…it will be 99 degrees here this week and then even hotter for most of the summer. Your mission should you choose to accept it is to provide me with some recipes that my picky little kids will eat that won’t require me to turn on the oven!! We can only microwave so many chicken nuggets!

    • Sorry Mary, I guess I need to check the “About Me” post on a more regular basis for comments so that I can respond. How embarrassing! I’m assuming that you made it through the summer of 2010 without my help. 🙂

  9. Hi there Penny!
I’ve just popped in to let you know that I nominated you for the Liebster Award! 🙂 You can check out my blog to see exactly why I nominated you and also most importantly, what the award entails. All the best xx

    • Thank you, I apologize for responding literally years later, apparently I’m not keeping up on the comments on my “About Me” post, my bad! I really do appreciate though!

  10. Penny,

I’m reaching out to cake baking bloggers all over the web for a bit of assistance. First off, I’ve seen the good work you do and know first hand how much time it takes to put out products you’re making. I’ll get right to the point. I’ve found a website called Quirky.com that helps average people like you and me bring new products to market.

My wife and I can’t afford to buy a $1,000+ Somerset sheeter, so I’m suggesting making a new consumer version we can all afford. I’m guessing it might be the type of appliance you would get great use out of too. The thing is, I have 30 days to garner as many votes as possible so that my idea gets chosen. You can create a free account on Quirky and vote for it by using these links. That’s all there is too it.

    This link is for registering:

This is my Consumer prices fondant sheeter product concept:

If you or anyone reading this would consider voting for me that would be great.

I also have a post on facebook you could simply LIKE and share if that’s easier.

Thanks so much for your time.
    Ken

    • I’m so sorry I’m so late in responding to this but I’m curious as to what the status is of your idea because I think it’s a great one.

    • Thank you so much! I really appreciate it! I am going to have to pass it on to some other bloggers at a later date when I have some free time. Thank you again.

  11. Hi, I really enjoy reading your blog and have nominated you for the “Inspiring Blog Award” There are a few rules to this nomination (these aren’t my rules, so do what you want…no pressure) you need to give a shout out to me, of course, tell us 7 things about yourself and then nominate 15 bloggers, that’s the tricky part, if you don’t have 15, don’t worry, just pass it on to someone….share the joy by following this link,http://trkingmomoe.wordpress.com/

    • I am so sorry that I am so late in responding to this, apparently I need to keep better track of the comments that are posted on my “About Me” post but I really to appreciate the nomination! Thank you so much!

    • I apologize for being several years too late in responding to this but I just wanted to say thank you and that I really appreciate it! 🙂
